Domain Lock (also called Registrar Lock or Transfer Lock) is a security feature that helps prevent unauthorized domain transfers and certain unwanted changes.
When enabled, your domain cannot usually be transferred to another registrar unless the lock is removed first.
Enabling Domain Lock helps protect your domain from:
Unauthorized transfer attempts
Domain theft
Accidental registrar changes
Some unauthorized ownership modifications
It is recommended to keep Domain Lock enabled at all times, unless you are intentionally transferring the domain.
Log in to your Govaio client area
Go to Domains
Select the domain you want to manage
Click Manage Domain
Open Security or Registrar Lock section
Toggle Domain Lock to Enabled
Click Save Changes
You can verify status by:
Viewing the domain management page
Checking domain status in WHOIS lookup tools
Common statuses:
clientTransferProhibited = Lockedok = Usually unlocked (varies by registry)You may need to disable it temporarily when:
Transferring the domain to another registrar
Completing certain ownership updates
Registry-specific support actions
After changes are complete, re-enable the lock.
Some newly registered domains are locked automatically
Certain domain extensions may have different lock rules
Domain Lock does not replace account security—use strong passwords and 2FA if available
Some registries also use additional registry-level locks
Possible reasons:
Domain Lock still enabled
Domain registered or transferred recently (ICANN 60-day restriction may apply)
