The Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) interface in cPanel allows you to add an extra layer of security to your account. With 2FA enabled, users must provide two forms of identification before accessing cPanel:
- Their password, and
- A security code generated by an authenticator app on their mobile device.
🚀 Why Use Two-Factor Authentication?
Passwords alone can be compromised through phishing, brute force, or data breaches. With 2FA, even if a password is leaked, unauthorized users cannot access your account without the time-sensitive authentication code.
🛠️ How to Set Up 2FA in cPanel
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Navigate to the Security section and click Two-Factor Authentication.
- Click “Set Up Two-Factor Authentication.”
- Scan the QR code using a compatible 2FA app like:
- Google Authenticator
- Authy
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Enter the 6-digit code displayed by your authenticator app.
- Click Configure Two-Factor Authentication.
- Your 2FA is now active. You will need to enter a new code each time you log in.
🔁 Disabling 2FA
To disable 2FA:
- Return to the Two-Factor Authentication interface.
- Click Remove Two-Factor Authentication.
- If you disable 2FA, make sure to delete all 2FA configurations for users associated with your cPanel account.
⚠️ Disabling 2FA will lower your account’s security. Only disable it temporarily and re-enable it as soon as possible.
✅ Benefits of 2FA
- Prevents unauthorized access
- Protects against password theft
- Easy to set up using free apps
- Enhances compliance and trust for business sites
- Works with any major mobile platform
